Thanks bsengine and bobodu. You have to remember I have 0 mechanical ability and no one to help except for you guys.

I managed to get the linkage hooked back up. My only problem is the washer is not 'catching''' which in turn closes the buttefly choke. Any tips or ideas?

Use a small flat washer with a hole just a little larger than shaft instead of a Split lock washer where it will catch on the two small pinches on the shaft. Local hardware store purchase as source.

There should also be a bend or threaded on self locking nut at the end of control rod too so the control lever or an added spring can pull the choke back off when in non-choking position. It just depends on how that choke engagement lever acts when in non-choke position. It will just take some after-market engineering now.

Jimmy, I found a picture that should explain your choke setup better.

Edit: in your original post you shown us the choke linkage still hooked up and it didn't have the hooked end on the choke rod. The only I thing seen wrong with was connected at the butterfly backwards. Should be more in line with the choke engagement lever. Please reference the following pic. I apologize for not going back and review you posts more often. I have been quite busy in the shop this month.

Thanks for the photo KE4AVB. Finally got it up and running and cut the yard with it. I love the way reel mowers leave Bermuda grass.

The bad news is I am putting a 3hp predator on the machine and taking the Briggs off. Just ordered it from harborfreight. I am giving the mower to my Mom and she isn;t too keen on using a machine I have worked on for fear it will fall apart.

Probably going to hold onto the Briggs in case I pick up another reel on CL with a bum motor.

Big thanks to this forum and the help you have provided

Having some problems putting this new engine on. It seems like I am missing a piece. In the third pic, you can see the piece I think I am missing or need. Need some advice here. Let me know if it is okay or if I need to buy something before I bolt this down

Hi,

May be the pulley from the Briggs will fit - if you have the right shaft diameter & key way. The old pulley should just pull off - be careful not to loose the key!
If shaft diameter on new engine is not the same as the old you will have to buy a pulley & key to fit your new engine. You will need a pulley to match the belt profile and the same outer size as the original otherwise you could get into speed differences. Best to set the new engine max speed to the original engine specification.

Cheers, Roger

Thanks Roger,
I am hoping it will fit as I can't seem to find a comparable sized pully on the web. Have the set screw soaking in some liquid wrench and Yield due to rust. Going to give it try in the morning

It is probably better you just a pulley at TSC or a hardware store.

But if you insist on pulling the pulley. It may even take some heat to get that set screw to loosen as rust will have it frozen in. I have broken hex wrenches before trying to get the set screw out without heating.

These pulleys can be really rust frozen to the crankshaft PTO. To remove the pulley first clean as much rust off the shaft as you can. Sandpaper will work then I use a bearing separator with an ACE/OX torch and impact to slowly remove the pulley. Use only enough heat to expand the pulley as not the heat crankshaft excessively as the will damage the seal and if way too is use the crankcase. You will know when the pulley is expanded enough to pull as puller will move the pulley without bogging completely down. There is an alternate method to remove a lot of the surface rust but is not for beginners and can be very dangerous so I won't go into it here.

Don't go hog wild and try to use only the impact to pull the pulley, you will only succeed breaking the bearing separator plus damage the pulley and the crankshaft. Even with care I have destroyed some of the thin tin pulleys use on the Cub Cadet ZTRs but I know that going to happen going in and have a new one to put back on. When you got to pull an engine a part for repairs it is the only way sometimes.
