No numbers stamped on valve cover

Where do you find the model and type numbers on a B&S I/C 17.5 HP engine when they are not stamped in the valve cover and the label is gone from the shroud?
The engine is on a Troy Bilt Pony 2009 model....

Maybe the valve cover his on upside down?
Or, the valve cover is rusty and you need to use emery cloth to send it down to see the numbers.

Nope..already ran it thru the degreaser and even looked with a magnifying glass no numbers on the cover anywhere....

Best that I can figure is it that it is a 31000 series engine...does that seem correct?

Here's pics of the valve cover.

Its probably a replacement valve cover... and whoever replaced it did not record the numbers elsewhere (We'd normally engrave them in the plastic cover with an awl or soldering iron if we replaced valve cover with the numbers on it - Stickers ALWAYS peel off or get damaged.)

Which really sucks - What is the equipment model and serial number, and maybe we can get "close" to the right engine model and type - and a rough estimate of date code.

Go to the TroyBilt site: http://troybilt.custhelp.com/ punch yer numbers in. Should tell ya what motor came with the unit.
Numbers could also be on the side of the cyl shroud.

Thanks guys.

It seems that all the 310000 series use the same intake push rod and that is what I need for this one so, I just got a used one that we had in stock and used it.
Thanks again for the help.

Intake push rod would be aluminum on that model I believe.
